Until now you had to sail on a small luxury ship to stay overnight in a port of call. But now Carnival Spirit will spend two days and one night in Cabo San Lucas during five- and nine-day sailings from San Diego.
Beginning December 10, 2010, Carnival Spirit will begin sailing on the new itinerary which replaces previously scheduled eight-day Mexican Riviera itineraries. Nine-day cruises will also call in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and La Paz.
Carnival Spirit will operate its new five- and nine-day Mexican Riviera schedule through April 1, 2011. The Carnival Spirit will then offer its previously scheduled 12-day Hawaii cruises (April 10 and 22, 2011) and a full season of seven-day Alaska cruises departing from Seattle (beginning May 10, 2011).

1Finally! Not having overnight stays is an objection I hear often – especially from folks who want to enjoy the nightlife of a destination. Hope this becomes a trend.

2I’m thrilled Carnival has taken this step. I once stayed overnight in Bordeaux on an Oceania cruise and it was wonderful. We strolled around town at night and had dinner, had the time to rent a car and go exploring.

3I’m sorry to hear they are dropping the Acapulco and Zijuatenejo stops — both are great. But La Paz is truly a charming town so that’s a benefit.

4Does anyone know what their plan is for November 2011? Will Carnival offer a cruise out of San Diego?
