If you don’t think cruise lines are upping the pressure to spend more money aboard ship, this may convince you.
Holland America’s new Eurodam, scheduled to debut July 1, 2008, will boast cabanas in the private Retreat area on Observation Deck. The daily rental price is $45 on port days, $75 on sea days. This price also entitles you to a bathrobe, towels, handheld fans, an Evian spray mister and pre-loaded iPods.
Or, should you care to economize, private cabanas without the towels, bathrobes, etc., are also available on Lido deck for $30 (in port) and $50 (sea days).
I first noticed that ships were being designed to enhance on-board revenue in the late 1990’s, when art “galleries” started popping up in prominent locations to increase attendance at art “auctions”.
Is this the kind of feature likely to entice you to pick a cruise ship?
