Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises will add a fuel supplement of $5 per person, per day for sailings that depart on or after Feb. 1, 2008. The surcharge applies only to the first and second passenger in the cabin and will not exceed $70 per person, per sailing.

1Sure, I understand the charge but still don’t like it. I thought when you bought a fare, you paid for your part of the trip. Now, you’re just paying for the space, but they pull the ship up to the pump and ask for your credit card. The smartest thing they did was roll the charge into port and taxes, because if that bill appeared on people’s last day folios, you would see a lot of people at the pursor’s desk.

2The fuel surcharge will be part of the cruise fare, just like port charges and taxes. The high cost of fuel has effected every segment of life. Groceries will become more expensive because they’re trucked to the store. UPS has increased it’s fares because of higher gas prices.
