NCL does it again! They adaciously increase the fuel surcharge to a whopping $11.00 per day!

Unlike Princess Cruises, there is no limit on the number of days that they charge. That means, for a 19-day cruise, NCL now charges $209.00!

As long as NCL continues this outrageous fuel surcharge, my friends and I will avoid this cruie line like plague.

Now that the price of Oil is down is NCL going to take back the increase of $9.00 a day? I will not use them
I find it much to high at this time. In the past I was there customer 3 times but will refrain right now. To greedy for me, 18 dollars a day for both.

Actually NCL announced another fuel surcharge last week. It will now be $11 per person, per day, the highest of the mass market cruise lines.

Every year NCL has continued to cut back or charge for services that were once part of my ticket price. Chargeing to use the indoor pool on the Dawn, cut the quality of the food in the main dining room, but the iceing on the cake was to do away with serving trays in the cafeteria. Now a fuel charge, what next? I think this is the beginning of the end of the cruise industry. I won't cruise with NCL again.

I think most of us can cut back on onboard purchases. I skip the spa (massages aren't good but overpriced, I rarely take shore excursions and avoid the casino).

For someone like myself who has just completed my 55th cruise since 1995, it means that I will spend less on board the ship (photographs, drinks, specialty restaurants etc.) as well as for land based shore excursions (particularly those booked through the cruise lines)!

I have no doubt that ALL cruise lines will slowly increase their respective 'fuel surcharges' as the price of gas / petrol increases throughout the world.

And by the way, we are currently paying between $1.50 - 1.60 a litre (that's around $5.50 a gallon) for gas in Melbourne, Australia!!

Gas is almost $4 per gallon in New York City.

I think the easiest way to avoid over-spending aboard ship is decide what things to cut out before departure. This cruiser doesn't need one more T-shirt or art and I gave up massages because they're poor quality and over-priced. I skip the casino because I money disappears in a nanosecond.

In the Caribbean, unless I want to do something special, like go snorkeling, I can eliminate shore excursions.
Alaska is probably the most difficult place to cut costs because there's very little to do if you don't buy shore excursions in every port.

I guess with oil prices increase all over it is not surprising.
Went out this morning & gas is $1.20 litre YIKES
no joy riding for me!!!

You do not need to spend extra on the cruise if you do not want to. It is a personal choice.

The pressure to spend more money on a ship does affect the cruise experience I think. Pre-2001, cruise lines depended on cruise prices for income; today, it's onboard revenue that is most important.
