Each time Royal Caribbean launches a new type of ship, you can be sure there will be a “wow!” factor. With the Voyager-class ships it was rock climbing. The Freedom-class ships boasted surfing (of a kind). The Genesis-class ships — at 220,000 tons and a passenger compliment of 5,400, the largest cruise ship ever built — will have………….(roll of drums)……..Central Park!
Located in the center of the ship, which is open to the sky, Central Park will have paths, flower gardens, canopy trees and seven neighborhoods. (You think I could make this up?) The park will be located on Deck 8 with dimensions of 62 feet wide and 328 feet long. The town square will be the focal point with a park-like tranquility by day while at night you can dine, attend concerts and street performances. The plaza will be lined with balcony staterooms rising six decks high with views of the park below.
The park will have quiet reading corners; a Chess Garden with large scale pieces; the Pergola Garden with Caribbean vegetation and a sculpture garden.
Restaurants will include 150 Central Park, an elegant dining venue, plus Chops Grille and the Italian restaurant Giovanni’s Table. Central Park Cafe will be a gourmet market with casual cuisine and Vintages, a wine bar, will complete the offerings.
When she is launched in late 2009, the first Project Genesis ship will be the largest ever built spanning 16 decks. Should you want to keep tabs on the progress of the ship’s new features visit Royal Caribbean Genesis’ web site.
Does the new Project Genesis sound like a ship you’d cruise aboard?

1I am guessing you would make the ship your destination.
It would be a nightmare tendering ashore!!!
Not the ship for me!

2I certainly wouldn’t be popping into my cabin very often
The distances on Voyager & Freedom were great.

4We thought the Mariner was phenominal, then we went on the Liberty, that was even better. We cannot wait to sail on the Genesis.
