Oh yes, I've heard it's been a literal life-saver and the reason alcoholics decide to cruise. I don't know about al-anon...
Sounds like a lot of fun!

I am so excited to hear that AA meetings are on cruise ships! My boyfriend and I will be attending my brother's wedding on a cruise this coming May. By then (hopefully), my boyfriend will be almost 6 months sober and he is really worried that being in a tropical place will be a trigger since he used to go to Mexico so much when he was younger. It is so encouraging to know that he will not be alone! Anyone know if there are Al-Anon meetings as well?

I came to this site to see what The Friends of Bill W was after sailing on The Queen Mary 2. Each day at 4pm there was a meeting for friends of bill W. The cruise is not stressful enough to make you want to drink in my opinion, but they are good enough to organise the daily event. I did not see any people drinking excesively on board at all.
Now I know what Friends of Bill W is I can go into the room on Yahoo Chat.

Hi Jennifer - whilst your sentiment is very true especially in the early days, I need to remember that my recovery is a plan for daily living, and I cannot escape or avoid potential dangerous situations. AA is a bridge to normal living, the people, places and things which once drove me to drink are still there, every day, and now, because of my daily program, I can deal with them without the need or desire to pick up a drink. I don't need to run away or avoid them. I have now been in recovery for 23 years, ODAAT.

This really is very interesting. I used to work (a lifetime ago!) as a drug rehab counselor, and one of predominant theories regarding continued sobriety is/was that recovering addicts and alcoholics should try to avoid trigger environments.

The head of a large travel agency, who has been in business for 30 years told me this happens. I'm not surprised since cruise lines now see onboard spending as their real source of income.

"I told Alan that if a travel agent makes the mistake of telling a cruise line that the group he or she is booking is a bunch of recovering alcoholics or fundamentalist Christians, the cruise line automatically raises group rates to offset they money they won’t make from selling drinks. "

Oh really?
