I cruised the Destiny in 1997 and had we were not pleased with the food, service, etc.

I'm willing to give Carnival another try after reading your's and other's comments. The wife and I are "suite" people in our late 60's Does Carnival have Concierge service, priority embarkation & debarkation? We love good entertainment, food and service. Your opinion on the above would be greatly appreciated and what ship would you reccommend.

On some of the older ships, the design is "too interesting" for my taste. Walk into the atrium of an Imagination-class ship at nigh feels like 25 cups of expresso :) But I do chuckle at some of Joe Farcus' design ideas. I thought he must be either on drugs or insane. But then I met him to discover he's a low-key guy, down to earth and perfectly normal.

A couple positives not mentioned (IMO) for Carnival (which I truly enjoy):

* Love the goodie basket in the bathroom. I look forward to those razors.
* The bedding we enjoyed on the Elation was equal to the Los Angeles Omni.

My list for "needs improvement":

* Its suckey past cruisers program. Absolutely the least perks for multiple past passengers (6+) -- just a cocktail party and a pin.
* No indoor pools. These are my favorite on RCCL and Princess.
* OK, I will admit it, the dancing at dinner really irks me.

But, the good out weighs it all:

* Huge cabins
* Great food
* Super buffet choices
* Good staff
* Interesting interior design (not just like a hotel)

My Wife and I both love Carnival we have been on most of the lines. We enjoy the upbeat of the people. The staff is always happy and willing to help out. Food is great the show enjoyable. we are booked again for New Years a party like no other.we are in the 62 age range wife younger. My only problem is I enjoy cigars tne new cigar smoking is only in the cigar bars I like to be up on the Lido deck during the sailing time. This could kill carnival for me. Maybe even cruising!

Your last line is the best line! To be honest, we are not people who have a lousy time, even if things are not good, we just are so happy to be together we just use the power of laughter and fun!Another thing I love with NCL, is their ships have the "deck seven". The shops, service deck, are on deck seven, higher up, and the floor is open deck, with wonderful seating, peaceful, quiet, you can play games, talk, have a tea, watch the sun come up or set,with out all the noise and hustle and bustle of lido deck! They have glass doors all over so you can go out on the deck and relax. Our last cruise, we had such fun family times on that deck, and we are so looking forward to GEM for 11 days next month!

It sounds like you had dreadful service, which would turn anyone off to a cruise line. NCL is a terrific cruise line, I love "Freestyle Cruising" and agree, having no flexible dining plan is a drag. I have friends who have cruised on many ships and now will only go on NCL because of Freestyle.

My belief is the "best ship" is the one YOU love!

We did one cruise , Triumph. We dont like the set seating times and set table. Entertainment was great. Foad was good. Inernet was terrible. Room was a nice large size compared to most others, the red white and blue stuff got tedious after a few days. Prefere more port intensive cruises, Cabin was NOT kept clean at all, greeting with some ones left over black bra left on the TV.Drugs of mine left in fridge daily reported not to unplug fridge ( put in the cabin for he medications) and yes it was alwaysunplugged. Dinning staff excellent.Photos were good and well priced, thats our review/opinion in a nutshell. Personally it wont be our first choice and we enjoy NCL far more, less of these games, and dansing at the table, thats OK for one cruise, but not over and over each cruise. Celebrity is definately out, even Sam who is pretty sedate in activity said it was wheelcair walker city. I dont find for us Carnival so great priced, we have had comparable or better on NCL. Celebrity was more expensive than those two. I personally find carnival kind of too mass market, I had fun, I wouldnt refuse a fre cruise with them, but it would not be my personal coice. But these things are very subjective and each person has a differant view. I stress, I enjoyed myself, we had a good time , it's just not the line of choice for our family . What is great is that there are many options and you can try them till you find the one that "fits" with you and yours.
